About

Writam Bugga

I am a product manager in Seattle. This journal is where I think out loud about carbon-aware product management: how carbon data gets made, who makes it, and how product teams can use it. My broader work, beyond climate, lives at Personal Website.

Where it started

In 2024 I did an Ikigai exercise: what I love, what I am good at, what the world needs and what I can be paid for. The overlap pointed to sustainable products, so I set out to build a marketplace for them. During discovery I found the core issue was missing data. That set the foundation for everything here. The full story is in I went looking for sustainable products and found a data problem.

What I have been doing

  • Served as lead volunteer for PNW Climate Week 2025 and co-led the Sustainable Design track, including an LCA workshop for 60+ consultants and sustainable design professionals, with more than 100 registrations.
  • Built an LCA Discovery concept that produces a Climate Action Profile from a user's role, sector and use case. It started as a directory idea in late 2024 and was rebuilt in mid-2025. It is still a concept.
  • Ran a biodiversity experiment with Google DeepMind's Perch model in September 2025.
  • Wrote about software carbon intensity, LCA, standards and carbon as a product metric on LinkedIn. See publications.

I built these myself and managed the repos and databases. I want to keep getting more technical so I can support teams doing excellent sustainability work.

What I bring to a climate team

I understand moving fast and slow at the same time, which is what founding, early and growth-stage startups need in an early hire. I have done that three times across different sectors and want to do it in climate tech. The core of any work I would do:

  • The organization and sector: values, mission and constraints
  • LCA data sources and how reliable they are
  • Reporting and compliance requirements
  • Multi-sector reach
  • User personas and segmentation
  • AI and data governance

Off the clock

I grow peppers and basil and am getting better at container gardening on a patio. I built a small tool to help others do the same at ecoshop.ai.
